Student Information Technology Use

Students are required to obtain a student domain account and a student email account.

2. Sign the Acknowledgement Form.
3. Receive a student domain account.
4. Receive a student email account

Wireless access is available for enrolled students. Students are required to register their wireless devices with the IT Department. Wireless devices which pose a security threat will be disconnected from the campus wireless network.

Students must present a valid student ID to open or change their account.

Microsoft Office 365 SIPI Cloud webmail

Your new student email account, @mail.sipi.edu, is ready for you! Please follow the directions below as soon as possible. You must use your @mail.sipi.edu email account to communicate with college faculty and staff.

Sign In for the first time:

1. Go to https:  https://outlook.com/mail.sipi.edu.
2. Use the following credentials to sign in:

  • User ID: @mail.sipi.edu
  • Password: Password1 (default)
3. Click Sign in.
4. Complete the account registration by verifying your account information.

SIPI Cloud Password Guidelines:

1. 8 characters or more
2. 1 capital letter
3. 1 number

Office 365 provides student email, online document editing (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and file storage (OneDrive). Register for a SIPI student email account at the Occupational Technologies Building Room 133, M-F, 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm.
You must have a SIPI student email account to use Office Online (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, & OneNote).
Once you are signed into your @mail.sipi.edu account, click on the OneDrive button. Click on the "new" button. A popup menu will appear, select an Office application from the menu. Your document will automatically be saved to your OneDrive online storage.

Monitoring:

All network activity will be monitored and/or audited periodically by the Information Technology Department. All activity to and from the Internet is logged and monitored by the Bureau of Indian Education and the IT Department. The BIE is currently working towards automatically blocking its internet gateways to known inappropriate sites. However, just because an inappropriate site is not blocked does not mean that it is authorized for access. You must use good judgment. Each individual is expected to refrain from accessing inappropriate sites.

Software:

Unless specifically authorized in writing by the manufacturer of the software, software and documentation relating to the use of the software may not be duplicated. Personal software is not allowed on any campus computer system without the expressed written permission of the IT Department.

Policies:

Students are allowed to use campus computing facilities for educational and related personal use as long as that use does not interfere with the college's mission, conflict with specific lab policies, or is listed below. Specifically, students may not:

  • Access the Internet (with campus equipment or facilities) for any commercial or unauthorized purposes including, but not limited to any fraudulent, threatening, defamatory, harassing or obscene communications.

  • Attempt to defeat or circumvent security measures, controls, accounts or record-keeping systems.

  • Use web proxies or http tunnels to bypass web filtering controls.

  • Gambling

  • View or download sexually explicit material.

  • Use peer to peer software to download copyrighted material.

  • Endorse products, services or organizations using campus computing and networking equipment.

  • Receive or transmit material that misrepresents, or is inconsistent with the mission of SIPI

  • Receive or transmit material that contains any pornographic content.

  • Receive or transmit any material that is in violation of any U.S. Laws, Laws of the State of New Mexico, or the policies of the college.

  • Invade the privacy of others or disclose non-public information for unauthorized purposes.

  • Violate copyright law

Violations:

Violation of policy relating to the use of campus computers and/or the Internet may subject the user to termination of access, disciplinary action or prosecution as deemed appropriate. Any inappropriate or improper use of any Network or Computer Resource by any user should be reported immediately to the Network Administrator. Information Technology staff will disclose any illegal or unauthorized activities to appropriate college personnel and law enforcement agencies

Copyright Infringement:

The college recognizes the importance of protecting copyrighted material from unlawful distribution and use. Unauthorized distribution of copyrighted materials such as songs, videos, games, textbooks, or other types of intellectual property by way of illegal file sharing is prohibited and may result in civil or criminal action.
