NSF Visions 21

Water Testing at Nacimiento Copper Mine SIPI’s Visions 21 program is funded by the National Science Foundation. The program seeks to increase the number of Native Americans graduating in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses and entering the workforce in these fields. The project includes curriculum development in calculus, physics, and chemistry; standards-based faculty development; student experiences in research; and a program for networking professionals to address the need for Native American IT workers. Two-year students in the project not only perform hands-on research, but will improve their communication skills by writing about the research process. Student enrollment and progress in the project is monitored, with outcomes and lessons learned shared with other minority-serving institutions.
