Civil Engineering Technology – Surveying

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology – Surveying is a course of study over five trimesters for students wanting to prepare for careers as engineering technicians in the land surveying field. The general education component of college level courses is fully transferable for those wishing to pursue a higher degree at a university.

Program Goals

The Civil Engineering Technology – Surveying program will prepare the student for entering the workforce as the entry-level as competent engineering technicians in the land surveying field, able to work with engineers, designers, architects and licensed surveyors. They will be equipped with necessary skills in math, physics, surveying, civil and architectural design to compete in today’s market.

Program Objectives:

  • To be able to perform computations relative to surveying projects, such as horizontal distance measurements by pacing and chaining, differential leveling, traversing, as well as being able to set up and use theolodites. Also, to be able to perform these tasks using GPS-based equipment.
  • To be able to perform the basic processes of land and construction surveying
  • To be able to use general mathematical and physical concepts in the GPS/GIS art and science of surveying.
  • To be able to give specific properties of bearing capacity of soil on which a structure will rest.
