Student Senate

The Student Senate is comprised of student representatives from active clubs. There are four elected officers:

  • President
  • Vice-president
  • Treasurer, and
  • Secretary

These officers are elected and voted in by the entire student body soon after the beginning of each fall trimester. The term of office is one year. When a vacancy occurs, the student senate body nominates and votes for a replacement.

The criteria for eligibility to run for office is as follows:

  • Must be at least a second trimester student.
  • Must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
  • Must not be on academic or behavioral probation.
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must circulate a petition and obtain at least thirty (30) current student signatures to qualify to be on the ballot.

The Student Senate provides development of leadership skills; liaison between students, faculty and staff; liaison between students, SIPI President, and Board of Regents; and a forum for discussion and input for the SIPI students.

All students are encouraged to seek out a club they may want to join. This is an important part of training for future leadership skills.
