Placement Office Services

The Placement Office provides career counseling, job placement services, and helps process applications to universities and colleges for students and alumni by appointment or on a drop-in basis.

Career Exploration: The Placement Office Counselor is available to assist students with identifying career interest inventories and assessments for choosing careers that match their knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Kuder, an internet lifelong career plan, is assessable for SIPI students as well. The SIPI Kuder access code number can be obtained at the Academic Support Center Main Office, Room 104, or the Placement Office, Room 105. Although some students may know what their career goals are, reaching these goals requires motivation, research, and an organized plan.

Job Search Advisement and Counseling: Finding a job is a “job within itself”. It takes a vision of what type of work you are interested in and how you will look physically, think mentally, and feel spiritually when appearing for an interview. Even though you may not be looking for employment immediately, it is important that everyday you do some activity to get you closer to being prepared to seek employment. The SIPI Placement Counselor is available to begin this process with you and will continue to offer job search advisement and counseling after graduating as well.

Resume Assistance: A resume is a screening devise for employers to select applicants for a job interview. Therefore your resume needs to be carefully written in order to portray you in a positive professional manner. The Placement Counselor is available to critique your resume to assure that format, spelling, and grammar are all correct.

Interview Coaching: Preparing for an interview does not begin the night before your interviewing appointment, it begins now! Think about where you would like to be employed and what you will be wearing; do you need to improve you posture for example, and most of all, what will you say about yourself in answer to employer’s questions. The Placement Counselor will be available to assist and coach you through this process.

Application to Universities and Colleges: The Placement Counselor is available to assist students and help them make a smooth transition from SIPI to universities and colleges. This process however takes time, planning, and research. Students are encouraged therefore, to begin this process soon after being admitted to SIPI.

Application to Scholarship and Internship Programs: The Placement Counselor is available to assist students applying for scholarships while attending SIPI or transferring to universities and colleges. There are numerous internship programs available to SIPI students during the academic year and summer months. The Placement Counselor works closely with instructional and occupational coordinators to recruit students for internship programs. Internship programs are a great opportunity to gain work experience and skills.

Graduate Placement Statistics: The Placement Counselor encourages all prospective graduates to make an appointment for job placement and/or assistance for applying to universities and colleges at least two to three trimesters before graduating. This allows enough time to develop a well planned transition from SIPI to employment or from SIPI to continue their higher education.
