Students are encouraged to initiate independent research for other scholarship assistance to supplement their expenses. Students interested in receiving financial aid from the following programs must apply directly with the appropriate agency:

New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship

The NM Opportunity Scholarship (NMOS) can cover academic fees at SIPI for New Mexico state residents and US students from federally recognized tribes that cross the NM border.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Enroll in 6-18 credit hours (fall/spring); 3-6 credit hours (summer)
Courses must be credit-bearing
Have a 2.5 cumulative college GPA or above
Have less than 90 total attempted credits
Enroll in an eligible certificate and/or degree program
Have financial need

SIPI Board of Regents Emergency Fund

Currently enrolled students who find themselves in dire need of financial support in order to manage an unexpected situation that may cause them to quit school are encouraged to apply. A paper application can be found at the SIPI Board of Regents office (OT 142B) or SIPI Financial Aid Office (OT 143/174) or Dr. Cometsevah 505-922-4093.

Early Childhood Education and Care Department Scholarship (ECECD)

Rolling Deadline. Awards pay for Tuition, Fees and Books.

Eligibility:

Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Enrolled in Early Childhood Education Certificate or Degree program
Enrolled in at least 6 cr. hrs.
Work a minimum of 20hrs per week in a childcare position

Engineering Technician

The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides undergraduate level students with challenging internship opportunities. The program is designed to promote public service and create access to higher education for students attending one of the 1994 Land-Grant Institutions, the accredited Tribal Colleges and Universities. The Indian Arts Research Center (IARC) - Native Artist Fellows

The Indian Arts Research Center is accepting applications for its 2025 Native Artist Fellowships, open through January 15. These non-residential fellowships support both emerging and established Native artists across a wide range of disciplines. Each fellow receives a $15,000 award to support creative exploration, new ideas, and the development of their artistic practice.

Catching the Dream

Deadlines: 3/15, 4/30, 9/18

They provide scholarship funds for students who demonstrate academic achievement, clearly defined goals, leadership, the determination to succeed, and the desire to return to their communities and help others realize their dreams. Students must attend a college or university on a full-time basis, seeking a BA or higher. Catching the Dream scholarships are awarded for life. However, if you are not selected for scholarship with CTD, you cannot apply again. Click here for more info.

CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service

Various Deadlines

CyberCorps (R): Scholarship For Service (SFS) is a unique program designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government's critical information infrastructure. This program provides scholarships that may fully fund the typical costs incurred by full-time students while attending a participating institution (University of New Mexico is a participating institution. Please see website for more institutions), including tuition and education and related fees. Additionally, participants receive stipends of $22,500 for undergraduate students and $34,000 for graduate students. VETERANS ASSISTANCE

Veterans Administration

SIPI complies with the principal of excellence for educational institutions serving service members, veterans, spouses, and other family members. Students are encouraged to complete their veterans application here.

Eligible students will then need to:

Contact the SIPI certifying official,
Submit signed Program of Study with current classes listed
DD-214 and Military Transcript
Certificate of eligibility
Transcripts from previous colleges (transferability must be reviewed by academic advisor).

Written records of previous education and training are maintained to show that appropriate credit has been given for the previous education. The training program at SIPI is then shortened proportionately. Information about eligibility for VA education and training benefits is available at any Veterans Administration Office.
