What is a dual credit program?
 
A dual credit program is an educational initiative that allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn college credit at the same time. The college course will count towards a high school diploma and your future college degree.

 

Who is eligible to participate?

 

  • Must be a registered member of a federally recognized tribe.
  • Must be on track to graduate on time.
  • Must be a junior or senior in high school.
  • Must be a student at a participating high school.
  • Must have high school counselor approval.
  • Must have parent or guardian approval.
  • English & math courses require a qualifying placement test score.
  • 2.7 GPA requirement.

Are the courses taught at the high school or college?

 

  • Certain courses offered online
  • Or held in-person at SIPI’s college campus: 9169 Coors Blvd. NW, ABQ, NM 87120
 
Is there a cost for dual credit classes?
 
SIPI is a federal tribal college, and all fees are waived including textbooks, once the student is accepted into the program.
 
Will these credits be transferred to other colleges or universities?
 
Transfer of college credits is facilitated by transfer agreements among public colleges and universities in the New Mexico, including SIPI and other Tribal Colleges and Universities.
 
 
What happens if I fail a dual credit class?
 
  • The grade will appear on both your high school and college transcripts
  • It may affect your high school GPA and college admissions
